Ben Alder

There are 282 Munros, mountains over 3,000ft, scattered across Scotland and Ben Alder, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, is one of the remotest in this part of the Highlands and often climbed over two days. At 3,766ft it's the 25th highest, while Lochan a Garbh Coire, on the summit's plateau, is one of the highest bodies of standing water in the country. The mountain also has a literary claim to fame, featuring in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel 'Kidnapped'.
