An Introduction to the Art of Batik with Emma Mackenzie is a series of weekly beginner‑level sessions at An Lanntair (17 January – 7 March 2026) in Stornoway. Participants explore the traditional batik technique of wax resist on fabric, learning how to use tools like the tjanting and brushes, stretch textiles, and apply dyes to develop patterns and imagery. The workshop gradually introduces more experimental methods—such as stencilling, homemade stamps and advanced dyeing—to expand creative possibilities. Over the course, attendees build skills to produce their own batik textile artworks in a supportive, hands‑on environment led by experienced tutor Emma Mackenzie.
