The Scottish Deer Centre – Deer, Wolves and Wildcats

A few hours.

The route

The Scottish Deer Centre sits in the green farmland of the Howe of Fife, and it's home to far more than deer.

Wolves, lynx, bears, otters and the rare Scottish wildcat live along its woodland paths, with keepers' talks and a flying display through the day. There are play areas inside and out, and a coffee shop for lunch.

The day

Bow of Fife

A day among the deer, wolves and wildcats, timed round the keepers' talks and the flying display. Lunch is soup in the coffee shop, or a picnic if it's dry.

    The Scottish Deer Centre

The Scottish Deer Centre and Wildlife Park is at Bow of Fife, on the A91 west of Cupar, with free parking at the entrance. It's open every day except Christmas Day and New Year's Day, from 10am to 4.30pm, with the shop open until 5pm. Tickets are £20.50 for adults and £15.50 for children at the time of writing, with family tickets too, and the park also offers pay-as-you-please entry: see its Get Tickets page before you go. Twelve kinds of deer live here, some of them rare, with Scottish wildcats, wolves, lynx, bears and otters among the trees. The day's deer tours, otter talk, flying display of birds of prey and talks at the wildcats and wolves are all included, at the times the park posts for that day. Children have an indoor play area for a wet spell, an adventure playground and pedal karts, and the woodland walks through Witches Wood and Wolf Wood are cool on a warm day. Most paths are fairly flat and fine for wheelchairs, and every daily event is accessible. The coffee shop does homemade soups, scones, sandwiches and hot food, and there are picnic tables behind it. Dogs can't go into the park, though they may wait on a lead in the courtyard.

If it rains

An indoor play area and the coffee shop are under a roof; the animals and the talks are outdoors, so bring waterproofs.
