Attadale Gardens on Loch Carron
Wester Ross

Attadale Gardens – Water Gardens and Sculpture by Loch Carron

A few hours.

The route

Attadale Gardens spread over 20 acres beside Loch Carron in Wester Ross, with water gardens, a Japanese garden, rhododendron walks, old trees and sculptures set among them, and a view from the woodland trail towards Skye.

Red squirrels are often seen along the drive. It makes a gentle half day for families, and dogs are welcome on a short lead.

A wander through the water gardens and the Japanese garden, then up the woodland trail for the view over the house towards Skye.

About two and a half hours

  1. Attadale Gardens

    Attadale Gardens

Attadale Gardens are on the A890 beside Loch Carron, about two and a half miles south-west of Strathcarron, with parking on site at the main entrance and a few disabled spaces closer to the house. The gardens are open every day from 30 March to 31 October 2026, 10am to 5pm, and shut from November until the spring. Buy day tickets at the Gatehouse by the entrance: £12.50 an adult, free for children up to 15 and for wheelchair users, by cash or card, with no tickets sold online. Gravel paths lead through the water gardens and lily ponds, the Japanese garden and the sunken garden, past sculptures and great old trees. The woodland trail and rhododendron walk climb to a view over Attadale House towards Skye. In October there's a fairy trail for children, and nets and buckets for dipping in the lily pond. Most paths suit a wheelchair, though some are uneven. Dogs are welcome on a short lead. The Midge Bite Café on site is self-service, with hot drinks, snacks and home baking; its opening times may vary, so bring a picnic to be sure.

If it rains

The gardens are outdoors on gravel paths; on a wet day keep to the lower water gardens and the woodland, and the café is on site.
