Moray Golf Club – Old Tom Morris’s Links at Lossiemouth
A day.
The route
Moray Golf Club's Old Course is a classic Old Tom Morris links along the shore at Lossiemouth, with Covesea lighthouse at the far end and the clubhouse watching over the last green.
Play the Old, or the shorter New beside it, then drive round to the marina for a late lunch at the Harbour Lights. It's a fine day for golfers of any standard, with clubs to hire if you've left yours at home.

Moray Golf Club
An attraction
Moray Golf Club's clubhouse stands on Stotfield Road at the west end of Lossiemouth, above the last green. The Old Course, laid out by Old Tom Morris in 1889, runs out along the shore towards Covesea lighthouse and back, through gorse and deep bunkers, and finishes in a natural amphitheatre below the clubhouse terrace. The New Course, by Sir Henry Cotton, is the shorter of the two. Book a tee time on the club's website or ring 01343 812018, option 1. At the time of writing a round on the Old is £150 from April to October and the New £70, both less in winter, and you can hire clubs for £50 a round, a buggy for £40 or a trolley. The courses are open every day of the year, and from November to January tee off by 11am to finish 18 holes in daylight. Ask about parking when you book. After the round, the clubhouse bar looks out over the 18th.

The Harbour Lights
Lunch
Lunch is about 3 minutes' drive east, at the Harbour Lights on Pitgaveny Quay, a café in an old stone harbour building looking over Lossiemouth's marina. It opens every day from 8.30am to 4pm, though it says closing times may vary in winter. There are breakfasts all day, soups, sandwiches, main courses and a specials board, with a children's menu and home baking for later. Tables are booked by phone only, on 01343 814622, for lunch between noon and 2pm.
If it rains
The links are open to every wind off the Moray Firth: in a downpour wait it out in the clubhouse bar, and lunch at the Harbour Lights is indoors.
