Shortbread is about as Scottish as a biscuit gets, and this November Inverness is crowning the best in the world. The very first World Shortbread Championships bring professional bakers, home bakers and young bakers together at Inverness Leisure, competing in traditional and speciality classes. You don't have to bake to join in: come along, walk the championship floor, taste the public samples and cast your vote, because the public decide a quarter of the result. Doors open at 10.30am on Saturday 21 November, judging starts at 11am and the winners are announced in the afternoon. Tickets are on the championships' website.
