Shetland Reel: Traditional Dance Gathering

This was on 4 October 2026, and is over now · Shetland Islands

4October

Shetland has a dance all of its own, and the Shetland Reel is a chance to learn it with people who know it best. Shetland Folk Dance leads an informal afternoon in the Mareel auditorium, showing how the islands' reel goes and getting everyone up to try it. Then a local dance band takes over for more ceilidh dancing, with a caller to keep you right. You don't need any experience or a partner, and you're just as welcome to sit, listen and watch. It's on Sunday 4 October at 3pm at Mareel, on the waterfront in Lerwick, as part of Shetland Wool Week. Book tickets through the Shetland Wool Week website.
