From Thursday the 4th to Wednesday the 10th of September 2025, the Orkney International Science Festival stages its 35th edition across Kirkwall and island venues. The programme blends scientific themes (from quantum theory anniversaries to island ecology) with community events including evening lectures, choir performances, a planetarium and island archaeology tours. Highlights include a concert in St Magnus Cathedral, walkshops at the Ness of Brodgar and climate-focused talks led by scientists and storytellers. Workshops and balcony ceilidhs encourage interaction, while young people join environmental projects linked to wool, food-growing and sea science.
