Barony Mill in Birsay is the last working watermill in Orkney, and it still grinds bere barley into beremeal, so it's worth a visit at any time. This September it's even better. More than a dozen Orkney artists and makers have filled it with work inspired by the mill and its grain, from paintings and textiles to pottery and stone carving. It's the first time the mill has hosted an exhibition, and the new work looks wonderful against the old machinery. It's free to see from 9am to 11am daily until 30 September, and after that as part of a guided mill tour.
