Some of the UK's most celebrated chefs are heading north this November, and you don't need a trip to London to taste their cooking.

If you'd rather give something handmade this Christmas, the Focus craft fair at Crathes Hall on Saturday 28 November is a good place to start. The Focus Arts and Crafts Design Group has been running fairs across the north-east for many years, and everything on the tables is made by the members who sell it, so you can talk to the maker about the piece you're buying. Expect everything from woodwork and patchwork to candles, soaps and scarves. The fair runs from 10.30am to 4pm at Crathes Hall in Crathes village, near Banchory, so it's easy to make a day of it with lunch on Deeside.
