Some of the UK's most celebrated chefs are heading north this November, and you don't need a trip to London to taste their cooking.

Balmoral holds its Christmas Artisan Markets in early November, a good reason for a trip up Deeside. For three days, from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November, stalls of food, crafts and handmade gifts set up on the estate. Exclusively Highlands runs them, and it's a good place to find a few presents. The castle's gift shop and restaurant are open too, so you can stay on for lunch. The markets run from 10am to 4pm each day. Entry is free, but there's a charge for parking, which you can book ahead on Balmoral's website.
