Scotland's Best Brochs

A broch is a round stone tower built two thousand years ago, and you won't find one anywhere else in the world. Some still stand tall enough to climb inside, and these are the best of them.

A broch is a round drystone tower built two thousand years ago, and you won't find one anywhere outside Scotland. Nobody is quite sure what they were for, which only adds to the appeal, and some of them still stand tall enough to climb the stairs inside the walls.

We've gathered the best of them, from famous towers on the islands to quieter ruins on the mainland. They are worth the journey, and to stand inside one is to stand in a room built two thousand years ago.
