Bellevue Farm – Alpacas, Highland Cows and Eggs to Collect

A few hours.

The route

Bellevue Farm, just outside Blackwaterfoot on Arran's west coast, is a working farm that opens its gate to families.

Children can meet the alpacas and Highland cows, feed the animals and collect the morning's eggs, on a guided tour or at their own pace. The farmyard is fine for a buggy, and dogs can come on the self-guided visit.

Before you go

  1. Book accommodation nearby

If you are staying over: here are ours nearest where the day starts and ends.

None of ours is close by: the nearest is The Hollies, 28 miles away. Sleeps 18.

  2. Book Bellevue Farm

Book a farm experience or tour at Bellevue Farm on its online calendar, or ring 01770 860251, before going: it opens on the days its calendar shows, usually from March to November.

About two hours

  1. Bellevue Farm

    Bellevue Farm

Bellevue Farm is a working farm just outside Blackwaterfoot on Arran's west coast, with a big, level parking area of compacted stone. It opens on the days its online calendar shows, usually from March to November: book a slot there, or ring 01770 860251, before going. The self-guided farm experience lets children meet the animals in the paddocks and barns by the farmyard, see the farm's machinery and learn where Arran's food comes from. Allow at least an hour. It's £25 for two adults and two children under 14 at the time of writing, or £10 an adult and £7 a child. The guided farm tour, an hour and a half of feeding the animals and collecting the eggs with one of the team, is £58 for a family of four. The farmyard's surface is rough but even and fine for a buggy; the tour crosses rough ground and a steep slope that most buggies manage but wheelchairs can't. The toilets are on the level, with an accessible cubicle and a baby-changing shelf. Dogs can come on the self-guided experience but not on the tour.

If it rains

Mostly outdoors in the paddocks and the farmyard, with the barns for a shower: bring wellies and waterproofs.
