Sutherland's waterfalls come in every size, and most are only a short walk from the road. Above Kylesku, the Wailing Widow pours about 30 metres from a hill loch into a deep gorge by the A894. On the Stoer peninsula, a fall of about fifteen metres drops through a mossy gorge above Clashnessie. Near Lairg, salmon leap the Falls of Shin in summer, and at Golspie a path climbs a wooded gorge over a string of wooden footbridges. Go a day or two after rain, when they are at their fullest.
