Highland locals to be asked for views on lynx reintroduction
Communities in the Highlands and Moray are set to be consulted on the possible reintroduction of lynx to Scotland. The Lynx to Scotland Partnership says the area could support up to 250 animals due to suitable woodland and prey. The proposal follows years of research into how a return could be managed responsibly. Concerns remain among farmers and crofters because lynx can prey on sheep. Any reintroduction would begin with a small number of animals and involve long term monitoring. Lynx became extinct in Scotland during the Middle Ages following hunting and habitat loss.
