Nairn, Portmahomack and the Seaboard.

The towns and villages here look out over the firths. Nairn is a seaside town east of Inverness, with Victorian villas, an old fishing quarter, a Telford harbour, long sandy beaches and famous golf. Up in Easter Ross, Portmahomack curves round a sandy bay on the Tarbat peninsula, with a small stone harbour and a view west to the hills of Sutherland. Along the coast, Hilton of Cadboll is the northernmost of the Seaboard villages, where a replica of a great Pictish cross-slab stands by the site of the original. Time a visit to Portmahomack for low tide, when the rock pools appear.
