Cuillin the Castle Pup is Unleashed at Inverness Castle Experience
The Inverness Castle Experience has introduced a new furry face to its upcoming attraction—Cuillin, the faithful companion of Flora MacDonald. The name was chosen from over 180 school entries by Lucy, a Primary 5 pupil from Muirtown Primary School. Her creative choice tied Highland heritage, Skye geography, and Gaelic language together—‘Cuillin’ referencing the famous mountain range and echoing the Gaelic word for puppy, cuilean. The project, set to open later this year, is part of a £30 million redevelopment to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Highlands.

Dores Inn Transformation Includes Café and Sauna
Plans have been submitted to redevelop the Dores Inn on the southern shore of Loch Ness into a year-round visitor hub. The proposal includes a Scandinavian-style sauna, café, bakery, shop, public toilets, and improved parking and paths. Aimed at enhancing the visitor experience while maintaining community access, the redevelopment would see the site close for construction, reopening in 2026 or 2027. The design reflects both local character and long-term sustainability goals. A new wild food truck is already on-site, serving local produce as the wider plans take shape. Public consultations are expected later this summer.

Scotland Records 29 °C — Hottest Day This Year
Scotland saw its warmest day of the year with temperatures climbing to 29°C in Drumnadrochit, bringing an early summer rush to lochs, beaches, and city parks. The heat stretched across the Highlands and into the Central Belt, with beer gardens packed and coastal roads busy. While the Met Office has issued warnings for isolated thunderstorms, the dry spell has been widely welcomed. After a long, unsettled spring, this sudden shift feels like a rare and needed reprieve.
