Edinburgh
An abbey and a crowned kirk.
Edinburgh has two of Scotland's great religious buildings at either end of the Royal Mile. At the top stands the High Kirk, its crown spire a landmark of the Old Town, where John Knox once preached. At the foot, beside the royal palace, are the roofless ruins of the abbey King David founded in 1128. Visit both on a walk down the Mile, and look up as you go.
