Painting on the Nethergate and Albert Square.

Dundee's galleries show both the city's own collection and the painters working in Scotland today. In Albert Square, a Gothic building designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott as a memorial to Prince Albert holds the city's art alongside its museum, and it's free to wander round. On the Nethergate, a gallery over two floors of the old Queen's Hotel buildings sells contemporary painting, sculpture and crafts. It is particularly proud of the Scottish painters it supports, and its exhibitions change through the year. The two are a short walk apart, so you can easily see both in an afternoon.
