Getting around
2 minute read

Ballater is located on the A93, the main road that runs through Royal Deeside. The easiest way to reach the village is by car. The nearest major city and transport hub is Aberdeen, approximately 42 miles to the east, which has an airport and a mainline train station.
The village of Ballater itself is compact and easy to explore on foot. All the main shops, restaurants, and local amenities are within a few minutes' walk of each other. To explore the wider area, including Balmoral Castle, Glen Muick, and the surrounding countryside, a car is the most convenient option.
Public Transport
Stagecoach Bluebird operates a regular bus service (the 201) that connects Ballater with Aberdeen to the east and the village of Braemar to the west. This service provides a useful link for those travelling without a car and allows for linear walks along Deeside.
Driving & Parking
Parking in Ballater is generally straightforward. There is a large, central car park (pay-and-display) located just off the main road in the middle of the village, as well as on-street parking available on many of the side streets. Parking is also available at the main starting points for popular walks, such as at the Glen Muick visitor centre.
