Rosemount Place and the Spital.

Aberdeen's independent shops are a pleasure to browse, and several sit on Rosemount Place, just west of the city centre. There you'll find a gift shop whose owner designs her own cards and prints, and a grocer with refills of dried goods, fresh bread and Scottish honey. On the Spital, the old road up to the university, a second-hand bookshop is stacked from floor to ceiling. There's a running shop for the trails of Deeside, and a refill shop and café at Bieldside run by a local school to give its young people work. Leave room in your bag.
