A Bronze Age hoard discovered near Carnoustie, Angus, will go on display next year after being saved for the nation. The Carnoustie Hoard, found in 2016 on land due for football pitches, includes items spanning nearly 3,000 years from the early Neolithic to the late Bronze Age.

Key finds include a rare spearhead with a gold-bound socket and a bronze sword in a wooden scabbard, both carefully wrapped in textiles and animal skins. The hoard was buried near a settlement, suggesting a local warrior elite.

The exhibition Scotland’s First Warriors will showcase this and other significant archaeological discoveries.
