Sir David Attenborough has named a golden eagle chick born in southern Scotland "Princeling", a sign of new hope for the species' restoration. It is a milestone for the South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project, now a standalone charity named Restoring Upland Nature.

The chick, hatched in spring, was satellite-tagged in June with support from local conservationists. Its parents are Emma, a translocated eagle named in memory of women's rights advocate Emma Ritch, and Keith, a locally fledged eagle from Galloway.

Princeling's successful fledging brings the number of golden eagles in southern Scotland to over 50, the highest in three centuries.
