At least two beaver kits have been born at Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin in Glen Affric, the first to arrive in the glen in 400 years. Trees for Life and Forestry and Land Scotland run the reintroduction, which began last October when eleven beavers were released under licence from Tayside.

Wildlife cameras picked up the kits over recent weeks; both were likely born in May or June, and one was filmed swimming alongside its mother. Both kits appear healthy. Tobias Leask, Trees for Life's Beaver Management Officer, has been filming the animals from a canoe.

He said the kits are “a wildlife success story four centuries in the making.” Glen Affric holds one of the largest surviving stretches of Caledonian forest in Scotland, which Trees for Life has worked with Forestry and Land Scotland to restore for more than 30 years.
