Mills Observatory has done the sums and its own hilltop is no use this time. On 12 August the Sun will be sitting too low in the west when the partial eclipse gets going, so the team is shifting down to Broughty Castle, where the views along the Tay are open and there are piers to stand on. At its peak, 91.6% of the Sun goes dark over Dundee. It starts at 6.07pm, maxes at 7.04pm and is done by 8pm, with the castle and museum staying open until 8.30pm. Certified glasses go on sale in the castle shop from 5 August, a pound a pair, around 400 of them. Weather permitting, obviously.
