The Isle of Tiree in the Hebrides has launched what is believed to be the UK’s first non-profit, community-owned veterinary service. After the island’s sole vet retired in summer 2025, locals faced losing care for both pets and livestock.

The initiative is backed by Tiree Community Development and Tiree Rural Development.
