A small family-run factory in Mauchline, East Ayrshire, supplies all the curling stones used at the Winter Olympics, continuing a tradition that stretches back to the first Games in 1924 and every Olympics since curling became a medal sport in 1998.

With about 15 employees, the business hand-crafts each 18 kg granite stone using two rare types of granite from the Scottish island of Ailsa Craig. The workshop makes around 48 stones a week and marks each one with its own identifier.

Beyond competition stones, the firm has expanded into Olympic giftware, reflecting global interest in the sport and Scotland’s role in its heritage.
