The disappearance of a white-tailed eagle in the Southern Uplands is being treated as suspicious by police. The satellite-tagged bird had been living in the Moorfoot Hills area for several months before its tracking signal stopped unexpectedly. Wildlife crime officers searched the area near Gladhouse Reservoir but found no trace of the eagle and are now appealing for public information. The four-year-old bird was part of a reintroduction programme and had returned to Scotland after being moved as a chick. Officers described the loss of the iconic bird as deeply shocking.
