Seagate Castle in Irvine, once visited by Mary, Queen of Scots and her ladies-in-waiting, is now set for vital restoration after years of decline.

The structure has become increasingly fragile, with sections at risk of collapse, prompting conservation specialists and local volunteers to act before more damage occurs.

The project will stabilise the surviving walls, clear vegetation and protect the remaining stonework so the site can be safely accessed in the future. Supporters hope the work will secure the castle’s long-term survival and help reconnect the community with one of Irvine’s most significant historic landmarks.
