Archaeologists have recovered more than 100 projectiles, including musket balls and cannon shot, from a previously unexplored section of Culloden Battlefield.

The findings come from an area that had previously produced no archaeological evidence. The objects appear to relate to the decisive 16 April 1746 clash between government forces and the Jacobite army.

Among the items are a three-pound cannon ball and pistol balls fired by dragoons during the conflict. Project leads say the discoveries help deepen understanding of one of Britain’s last battles and the intense conditions faced by combatants.
