Seven beavers have been released into Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin in Glen Affric National Nature Reserve.

The animals, a family of five and a pair, were moved from Tayside under licence, to protect farmland there from beavers that had been released illegally. Forestry and Land Scotland and Trees for Life have been planning the project since 2022, with support from the Beaver Trust.

The hope is that the beavers will restore habitat, bring back more wildlife, ease flooding and draw visitors, with local people helping to monitor and manage them.
