A new campaign, Public Golf Counts, has been launched by Scottish golf magazine Bunkered to protect Scotland’s remaining publicly owned golf courses.

With just 51 such courses left (down 10% since 2020), the initiative aims to prevent further closures driven by council funding cuts. Notable closures include Caird Park in Dundee and several courses in Glasgow.

The campaign advocates for community transfer agreements and a national strategy to keep these courses open. Supporters argue that public courses are essential to keeping golf inclusive and affordable.
