Scotland has recognised its first “Nature30” sites as part of a global initiative to protect 30 per cent of land and sea by 2030. Four areas in Argyll (Knapdale), Lanark (Loch Wood), Lochaber (Loch Arkaig Pine Forest) and Moray (Findhorn Hinterland) have received the designation.

The scheme, led by NatureScot, honours land managed for long-term biodiversity gain and supports investment and incentives for conservation work. The Nature30 sites complement existing protected areas and reflect a collaborative, voluntary approach to nature recovery across Scotland.

The initiative adds momentum to ongoing efforts addressing habitat loss and building climate resilience.
