A team of military personnel and veterans are hauling a one-tonne field gun along the 1,000-mile John O’Groats to Land’s End route to raise money for families affected by cancer.

Covering around 25 miles a day, they face Scotland’s wet weather and challenging terrain. Organised by former submariner David Bathgate, who has lost eight family members to cancer, the effort involves around 1,000 participants over two months.

The team began this week’s leg in Highland Perthshire and is due to reach Moffat on Friday, aiming to complete the challenge at Land’s End by the end of October and raise £150,000.
