Walkers in the Highlands are being asked to help track down meteorite fragments that fell near Dalwhinnie in July. The fireball was seen from Lewis to Edinburgh and is thought to have scattered pieces across a 20km area, with most fragments likely on Ben Alder’s plateau. Researchers say the rocks are black, shiny and sometimes rusted from rain. They ask that any finds are wrapped in foil or a clean bag, with GPS details noted. It has been more than a century since a meteorite fragment was recovered in Scotland.
