From the 2nd to the 9th of August, Pittenweem transforms into an open-doors gallery, with work by more than 180 artists spread across around 90 venues—cottages, garages, sheds, church halls—dotted through its narrow lanes and harbour-side spots. Visitors browse paintings, ceramics, sculpture and textiles, often chatting with designers directly in informal settings. The festival programme includes family workshops, artist talks and evening performances such as King Creosote at the Church Hall. The event began in 1982 and now draws around 20,000 to 25,000 people annually. Local businesses stay open late and the preview evening offers a first glimpse with wine in hand.
