Autumn on Arran brings out the conkers, and the Ormidale Hotel in Brodick is putting them to good use with its Open Conker Championship on Sunday 1 November. It starts at 6pm and it's open to all, so anyone can step up and have a go. The Ormidale is a family-run pub and hotel in Brodick, with home-cooked pub meals in the evenings and entertainment on most nights, from quizzes to live music. It's an easy one to drop in on if you're staying on the island, and Arran's events listing has the details.
