Made in the Glen

A shop in Glen Urquhart near Loch Ness run by three sisters, selling their own natural soaps, skincare, watercolours, wooden bowls and Highland gifts.

Made in the Glen began around a kitchen table in Glen Urquhart, the quiet glen that runs west from Loch Ness at Drumnadrochit.

Three sisters, Julia, Christine and Elizabeth, started making things for friends and family, and the gifts were soon so much in demand that it became a business.

Each sister brings her own craft. Julia paints the watercolours of Highland landscapes that become prints and cards, and turns wooden bowls and soap dishes. Christine makes the natural soaps, in small batches from carefully chosen ingredients, and the face cloths. Alongside them are the sisters' own skincare range, Ola Ros, and a small collection of homewares, candles and gifts.

The shop at Braefield opens Monday to Saturday from ten until four. It makes a good stop on the road through the glen, and a place to find a present that was really made in the Highlands.
