No 4 Steading Cottage

Add to List

Overview

No 4 Steading Cottage is a restored Victorian barn tucked into the heart of Glen Dye Estate, seven places to sleep across four bedrooms surrounded by forest and moor, perched beside the River Dye, watched over by the granite tor of Clochnaben and the Highland boundary fault It feels vivid and rooted the moment you arrive, a stone-walled semi-detached house reborn with modern comfort whilst keeping its 19th‑century bones

Inside, the layout is generous: an open-plan kitchen and dining room with a long table and fully equipped kitchen where the fridge hums like company, steps to a sitting room warmed by a wood-burning stove and lined with beanbags and vinyls Two bathrooms and a mix of king-size, twin and single beds mean it hosts groups without fuss

Outside is a courtyard laid with gravel, centred on a Big Green Egg barbecue and flanked by outdoor furniture, a place for shared meals under open skies, fifty metres down a woodland path a private Swedish wood-fired hot tub waits, steam rising into pine-scented air

You wake to birdsong and the gentle rush of the Dye, footsteps on trails through ancient woodland, rolling moorland just beyond. The cottage stands deep in the 30,000‑acre estate, a quiet world of wild swimming, castle trails, distillery visits and Munro climbs

Here you can gather seasonal vegetables, collect fresh eggs, light a fire at The Glen Dye Arms pub, try an electric sauna or weave willow at The Seed Store

No 4 Steading is not a tidy holiday house but a lived-in refuge where design meets wildness, a place to wake with wood smoke in your nostrils, to move under open sky, to listen and breathe into something quieter, deeper and entirely local.
