Catherine Heymans, the Astronomer Royal for Scotland, comes to The McManus in Dundee on Tuesday 10 November to talk about her new book, How to Design a Universe: The Science of Real and Virtual Worlds. The evening starts from modern astrophysics and asks how the universe works, and what it means for anything to be real, with room for humour and a few ideas that bend the mind. She was last in the city in October 2025, for the 90th birthday of the Mills Observatory, the first public observatory built as one in the UK. The talk starts at 6.30pm. Tickets are £7, or £22 with a signed copy of the book, and are booked on Eventbrite.
