The Bute Highland Games are held each August at the Stadium in Rothesay. The programme includes pipe band competitions, solo piping, field athletics, heavy events and Highland dancing. A 10K road race takes place through the town in the afternoon. Market and food stalls are set up along the edge of the grounds. Spectators watch from the grass banks or the main stand. Events follow an exciting schedule, with breaks for prize-giving and performances. The day closes with a parade led by massed pipe bands. Competitors attend from across Scotland. Entry is available in advance or at the gate.
