Stone-slab steps climb a grassy hillside path past a lichen-covered boulder

Ben Wyvis - Glas Leathad Mor

Welcome

Big mountains that stand on their own have real presence, and Ben Wyvis stands apart from everything around it.

It's a vast, whale-backed mountain north-west of Dingwall, and its highest point is Glas Leathad Mòr at 1,046 metres. The summit ridge runs for about 5km and is covered in a fragile carpet of moss heath. It's also home to an internationally important population of breeding dotterel. The walk up is fairly straightforward, through forestry to An Cabar and then along the ridge. The route is 6.5km and takes about six hours there and back. On a clear day the views roll out across the northern Highlands, so save it for a good forecast.
