Staffa and the Treshnish Isles – Fingal's Cave and Seals

A day.

The route

Turus Mara's boats leave Ulva Ferry, on Mull's west coast, for Staffa's basalt columns and the Treshnish Isles beyond.

From late April to the first week of August there are puffins on Lunga; in September and October grey seals pup on the islands. It's most of a day on the water.

About six and a half hours

  1. Turus Mara, Ulva Ferry

    Turus Mara, Ulva Ferry

Turus Mara's boats leave from the pontoon at Ulva Ferry, on the B8073 on Mull's west coast. Park in the car park by the pontoon, where half the spaces are kept for Turus Mara and space is short in summer. From April to the end of July the Treshnish Isles and Staffa trip sails daily at 11.40am and is back at 5.45pm: £85 an adult, £42.50 a child under 16. It gives two hours ashore on Lunga, where puffins nest from late April to the first week of August, and an hour on Staffa. From August to October the wildlife tour sails at 11.45am and is back at 5pm, with an hour or more on Staffa for Fingal's Cave: £70 and £35. In October 2026 it runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and grey seals pup on the Treshnish Isles in September and October. Ask when booking whether it lands on Lunga. Keep well back from puffin burrows and seal pups, and hold children close on Staffa's unfenced cliffs. No dogs on any trip. Bring a packed lunch and warm layers.

If it rains

The boat sails in rain but not in a heavy swell; Turus Mara posts each trip's status the evening before. On Staffa and Lunga there's no shelter.
