Campbeltown – a RIB Round Davaar Island, Then Seafood
A few hours.
The route
Davaar Island guards the mouth of Campbeltown Loch, and on foot you can only reach it across the shingle at low tide.
Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures, a husband-and-wife firm, takes a fast RIB, a rigid inflatable boat, out from Campbeltown harbour for an hour round its cliffs and lighthouse on any tide. Lunch afterwards is a short walk away at the Red Herring on Main Street.

The day
Campbeltown
An hour skimming out to the island at the mouth of the loch and round its cliffs, then a seafood lunch back in the town.
About two and a half hours

Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures
Mull of Kintyre Sea Adventures sails from Campbeltown harbour on its RIB, Sarah Bee, skippered by its owner, who has over 30 years' experience of fast boats. The Davaar Island trip takes an hour, out to the island at the mouth of the loch and beyond, for its cliffs, its lighthouse and its wildlife. It's £35 an adult and £25 for under-14s at the time of writing. The firm posts its trips on its Facebook and Instagram pages and takes bookings only about a week ahead, because of the weather, so text or WhatsApp 07775 910780 to book. Every trip depends on the weather and the numbers, and the skipper has the last word. Dress warmly.

The Red Herring
Lunch
Lunch is a couple of minutes' walk away at the Red Herring on Main Street, open every day from noon to 10pm, with last orders at 9pm. The menu is mostly seafood, from freshly landed haddock and Shetland mussels to Loch Fyne langoustines and hand-dived scallops. Booking is recommended: ring 07803 166003. If it's full, the Ardshiel Hotel's Garden Restaurant on Kilkerran Road is open daily, with a children's menu and high chairs; ring 01586 552133.
If it rains
The boat goes out only when the weather allows, at the skipper's call; the Red Herring is indoors.
