An Fenten
Mull and Cornwall have more in common than you might think, and An Fenten sets out to show it.

There's a mini Highland Games in the gardens of Inverness Castle in October, and it's free for the whole family. You can drop in and have a go at outdoor sports, traditional games and a few light-hearted challenges, all inspired by the castle's stories of how sport and play bring people together. There's no need to book, so just turn up for one of the two sessions and dress for the weather. It runs on Thursday 22 October, from 11am to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 3pm, in the Castle Gardens. Entry is free, with donations welcome, and children aged 15 and under need to come with an adult. The games don't include entry to the main castle experience.

The Citizens Theatre has stood in the Gorbals since 1878, and after a long rebuild you can now go behind the scenes on one of its heritage tours.

Every October the pines of Faskally Wood, a mile or so out of Pitlochry, are lit and scored for a month, and people walk through them after dark.
