Signature Food Festival
Some of the UK's most celebrated chefs are heading north this November, and you don't need a trip to London to taste their cooking.

Mallaig's book festival is one of the cosiest weekends of the year on the west coast, with writers, musicians and readers gathered in the West Highland Hotel above the harbour. This year Chris Brookmyre, Sally Magnusson, Shona MacLean and Polly Pullar are among the guests, and the Maclean brothers talk about rowing the Pacific. There's music from Rachel Sermanni and members of Mànran and Blazin' Fiddles. Friday night opens with a welcome dram. It runs from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November, and tickets start at £8 on the festival's website.
