The Hut on the Hill
An off-grid hut on a Perthshire hillside farm.
Words by Karla Rose Hall · Photographs by Jack Cairney
An off-grid hut on a Perthshire hillside, reached through fields of Hebridean sheep and wildflower meadows. A stay shaped by farm life, family time and the freedom of doing nothing much, guided by the gentle rhythms of a working farm.
‘Oh, what an adventure this will be.’
When the website description of your accommodation begins with the seven words above, it’s a clear sign not to expect a run-of-the-mill homestay. Sure enough, when we arrive at Guardswell Farm – a family farmstead covering 180 rambling acres of south-facing grassland in Perthshire, high above the River Tay – we find somewhere that’s squarely, and rather wonderfully, out of the norm. Dundee sits less than 15km away but may as well be on another planet.
