Easter Ross
The Million Dollar View and Udale geese.
The firths shape Easter Ross, and there are two good ways to see them: from high on the moor, or down on the shore. On the Struie road, a lay-by known as the Million Dollar View looks over heather and pines to the Dornoch Firth winding inland, with the hills of Sutherland beyond. On the Black Isle shore of the Cromarty Firth, the mudflats of Udale Bay are a bird reserve, where thousands of pink-footed geese gather in autumn. In Invergordon, the walk is through town instead, past great murals on its gable ends. Come to Udale Bay at high tide, when the birds are closest, and bring binoculars.
