Alloway's Poet's Path and Arran's coast.

Walking here can mean ten minutes or a week. In Alloway, the Poet's Path runs 500 metres from the Birthplace Museum to the cottage where Burns was born, past sculptures from his poems, among them a bronze mouse standing on its hind legs. Carry on to the Auld Kirk and the Brig o' Doon to finish the story of Tam o' Shanter. Across the water, the Arran Coastal Way circles the whole island in 65 miles, and guided trips follow it with a mountain leader and your bags carried. The Poet's Path is free and easy for all ages, while the island walk needs planning, so ask early for dates.
