Saint Ninian's Chapel

Welcome

On the point at the Isle of Whithorn stands the ruin of a thirteenth-century chapel, where pilgrims on their way to St Ninian's shrine came ashore from the sea.

Walk past the harbour and out along the grass of the headland, and you'll be there in ten minutes. The chapel is a small roofless rectangle of stone, with the Solway on three sides. Beside it stands the witness cairn, where visitors leave a stone. It's free and always open, and the Steam Packet is waiting on the way back.
